My name is Lisa Giknis and I started The Dog Cabin in 2011 at the age of 47. I had worked in the insurance industry for 27 years prior and after getting diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 40 and losing my mother to the disease in 2003 it was time for a change. I met my husband in 2004 who he and his son helped me get through my treatments and help me achieve my goal of being a woman in business! I was not sure what field to go into but with my husband living in Lake George NY a gorgeous tourist town and my love for dogs I thought why not a dog store! People can and do travel with their dogs and need things for them or perhaps things they forgot or if they had to leave them behind why not a “ guilt” gift. I then started my own Dog bakery making many homemade treats using all fresh ingredients and no preservatives and managed to start a dog beach and a dog park and created Lake George Dogs Got Talent during our winter carnival!
